GORGEOUS! FABULOUS!

FUN
FRESH
FASHION FORWARD

ClothesxEnvy was found by five girls who are passionate about fashion! We are the latest thing in town that everyone should look out for, and we are coming to you!

Our blog is one of the many blogs that will be taking part in the Republic Polytechnic Blogger Challenge 2014. The winning team will be announced on the 19th of February 2014. ClothesxEnvy is going up against 18 other blogs of different kinds of categories - ranging from charity cause blogs to film review ones. The Republic Polytechnic Blogger Challenge will be held at Republic Polytechnic on the 19th February 2014 and it stars famous local bloggers as judges: motorsports blogger Cheryl Tay, Bryan Choo of Smart Local and Alfred Siew of Tech Goondu

A local blogger, Szu An (Swan) has this to say about our blog:

"A really refreshing idea of a fashion blog that hopes to inspire girls (and guys) about the latest fashion trends and tips. It was my first time coming across such a fashion blog set up by a group of young girls and I had a really lovely time scrolling through the blog. Their blog would definitely appeal to young Singaporeans who would like to be in touch with the latest fashion trends! Especially loved the high quality images found on the blog as well, would definitely help spread the word about this inspiring blog to my friends who always face troubles finding clothes to wear! Can't wait to see more entries in the future!"

http://mybrownpages.blogspot.com

Szu An's personal blog is filled of clean and simplistic pictures that we cannot get enough of and we're especially flattered and grateful to receive these comments from her, and we do hope our readers feel the same way about clothesxenvy as well. After all, it's the reason why we created this blog.

You must be thinking, if there are so many different kinds of blogs, how is the winning blog determined? Well, here's what we've been told: all 18 blogs will be judged based on a set of criteria such as creative content, visual appeal, just to name a few. Over the past few months, we've been working hard on ideas and projects to continuously come up with great posts so that we can cater to our readers and what they would like to see.

It always warms our hearts when we receive encouragements for our blog, likes on our Facebook page and our readers telling us how much they are anticipating our upcoming posts. Each and every one of you have motivated us to keep striving to improve each and every time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts *big smiles from all of us*!!!

Make-up Inspiration- Are YOU ready for the New Year?

For New Year, we are not talking about picking dresses but instead, we are to share some make-up tips and inspirations so that all you girls can look oh-so-gorg while welcoming the new year!

For the WILDCHILDs

New Year's Eve is definitely all about the countdown parties and fireworks!

Bring out the sequin dresses and party all night into 2014! Things could only get better when you pair your shimmering dresses with a Smokey Eye look!

Here's are short and summarised steps:

Here's the steps to a basic smokey eye look! You'd need at least a quad palette to get this look done.
THE SMOKEY SHADOW PALETTE
Photos from: NYXwww.polyvore.com

Steps:
1. Prime your eyes.
2. Line. Lashline and half of your waterline (bottom of your eyes).
3. Start with the darker shades at the back of your eyes
4. Use your black eye shadow to darken the edges of your eyes, lash line and below your waterline.
Apply the lightest shade to your inner eyelid.
5. Put on your mascara or fake eyelashes and voila you're done!

Tips:
BLEND, BLEND & BLEND
Use a shimmery eye shadow for easy blending. ;)

If you didn't get that and need some visuals, check out this tutorial which I think would be extremely useful!

Afraid to go black? Go back. Just kidding! You can always opt for brown shades and it'd still look awesome!

Products to get:

Don't have what you need? Try gettting this palette from Luxola! All the colours you'd need and best part... Its on a sale, now retailing at only 14SGD! \o/

For extra OOMPH, use a shimmery base before putting on your eyeshadow. Our choice would be this cream eyeshadow from a Japanese brand, Dollywink! Available at your nearest Watsons Drugstore!

For the less "WILD"

If you're not intending to party your way into the new year, try out other looks!

I'd love to try looks from Lorde, one of my favourite artistes these days. She has minimal eye makeup on most of the time but I'm in love with how she rocks those fabulous shades of lip color.

Photo from www.billboard.com

Take a look at From Head to Toe 's tutorial of Lorde's look from Royals! She's one of my favourite YouTubers as ... I'm Asian and she's Asian which makes it easier to follow!

Hope this post helped you to get ready for 2014!

ClothesxEnvy would like to wish all our lovely readers a Happy New Year and we promise there's more things installed for our beloved readers in the new year (:

Again, feel free to drop us a comment/ message on Facebook if you would like us to talk about anything!

sending lots of light and love for the new year,
to have the knowledge, wisdom and courage to face all challenges that may come our way,

Christmas Outfit Inspiration - Find Your Style!

"Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live."
— Gianni Versace

Conflicted on what to wear for the season? Can't decide if you should go for sequins or leather?
A little head start is to first recognize your style (or at least the look you're going for), browse within your means and finally check if the occasion compliments the entire ensemble!

All outfits were pieced together on polyvore.com

For the enthusiast:

How do you resist the cute and quirky seasonal prints that come out at this time of the year? The cute reindeer sweater or the (creepy) Santa's head necklace - they're sure hard to leave hanging in the window display such as the ones below..

Sure, you'd want to wear your eagerness on your sleeves and let everyone know how excited you are for Christmas. But the last thing you'd want to be is a walking Christmas advertisement. You want people to be envious of you, not laughing at your silliness.

Good taste and knowing where to stop is the way to pulling off this look. I'd recommend you to pick one statement piece that screams "I HAVE BEEN WAITING ALL YEAR TO WEAR THIS" but keep it real by matching them up with solid colors, preferably free off patterns to retain the classy, I'm-excited-but-I'm-not-psycho look.

How I would assemble the look:

For the frilly goodness:

For the girly girls who wouldn't hurt an ant, or those who want to channel their inner Girl Next Door, try experimenting with pleats, scallop details or lace. This look is perfect for family gatherings where you won't want to scare your nosy relatives into thinking that you're a very disturbed child with all the chunky gold chains and platform booties, thick eyeliners and sheer tops revealing your $89.90 embellished bras.

Throw on a pair of flats or Mary Janes and delicate accessories for bonus points to get your boyfriend's parents to accept you and give you the title of Best Girl Brought Home because hey you must be the sweetest damn thing if you look like one!

How I would assemble the look:

For the ambitious and glamorous:

If you want to be the very definition of 'GO BIG OR GO HOME', pick nothing but the boldest of colors and the most extravagant of accessories. If you had been worried about sequins and glitter before, it's time to remove that thought away.

I couldn't think of an everyday event where this look would be applicable. Perhaps a Christmas dinner at a top class hotel? Such events don't happen regularly so why not pamper and grant yourself the excuse to be fancy!

Tip: Throw your hair back, away from your face (think: high bun or sleek combed hair) to make your outfit the main event of the evening and also for added drama, fake lashes won't hurt either!

How I would assemble the look:

For the dark queen:

Not a fan of colors but refuse to be labelled as dull and boring? Play around with textures and shapes! Just think about it. Why choose a monotonous bateau neckline when you can go instantly flirty with a sweetheart!

Also note that I couldn't think of a better combination of colors other black and gold. If you had to choose between a silver necklace or a gold one, please make a reminder that there shouldn't be a question about it anymore! Accessories can add dimensions to an outfit just imagine when matched against the perfect color!

How I would assemble the look:

For the non-fussy:

If you want to maintain the 'cool' factor or not intending to go extravagant (something you'd wear on the regular) but still wish to subtly express your holiday spirit, search your wardrobe for colors and details that are remotely corresponding to festive trends.

Sequins instead of glitter, prints instead of lace, boots instead of stilettos.

Afraid of looking like a Christmas tree wearing green and red? The trick is to find darker and muted colors.Try army green or burgundy. Rich and dark colors have always been my personal favorite. Because bright is just too 'sunshiney' for my personality yet black is too heavy (especially for the holidays) in my opinion. This concept takes you somewhere in between and a rather 'low profile' vibe.

How I would assemble the look:

_________________________________________________________________________________

So that's that! Find your style! Explore opportunities!
A little word of advice though, don't start experimenting when you're running late. You might just regret that a few minutes after leaving your house. Don't wear something you're not comfortable in. But whatever! Just have fun, it is the season to be jolly after all. Worst case that could happen is getting your poor choice of outfit immortalized into a framed picture in your home! Just move out! Haha just kidding, burn that piece of crap.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Next up, nail polishes! What is a fashionista without her nail polish? I personally feel that no girl would ever get enough of them. Nail polishes, manicure sets, they are one of the easiest gifts to search for. This idea will help especially when you’re on a tight schedule but you still want to get something nice!

You probably already have that one store in mind which you can get cheap nail polishes from other than Rubi. So what we are going to share with you is how to make it even more special!

Here’s an idea – Manicure set in a jar. Recently for my Secret Santa, I have searched for inspirations for gift ideas using jars. I found a perfect one for nail polishes, and I really want to share this with you.

Unfortunately, I did not take a photo of the manicure set in a jar I did for a classmate.
This image is from the Ann Le, the Youtuber herself who has inspired me in making one.
It only take a few steps to complete this and trust me, the end product is worthwhile!
I spent less than $20 for this amazing gift.

Here’s the video on how you can make your own DIY Manicure Set in a Jar, enjoy! (If you are getting something for a guy, you can also use this inspiration to make other “in a jar” DIYs such as cake in a jar.)

Last but not least! Cosmetics – Every girl’s bestfriend which helps enhance beauty and lifts up confidence.

Photos credits: Day Nite Shopperz

Naked Eyeshadow Palettes (1, 2 and 3)
Sephora Prices:
Naked Palette 1: $65
Naked Palette 2: $75
Naked Palette 3: $85

Bobbi Brown Brushes
This is something I would recommend you to buy for a friend who uses cosmetics daily. It comes in sets of 15, 18 or 32. If you purchase it from Sephora, it sure cost a bomb.

However, if you don’t wish to blow your budget or can’t find the time to make your way down to Sephora, worry not. We have an alternative way for you to purchase these cosmetic products. You can order from Day Nite Shopperz which sells a variety of cosmetics at an even affordable price. The prices for Naked Palette 1, 2 and 3 are $20, $25 and $30 accordingly. Items are imported from Korea and they offers delivery services and your cosmetics will be sent right infront of your door steps! If you are in doubt, you can view their Facebook Page for testimonials.

With that, we hope you have benefited from this post.Do let us know what you think of these ideas!
Good luck in finding your perfect gift!

Lots of Christmas love from all of us at clothesxenvy :) we'll see you in the next one! xx

Timeless beauty in absence of color: The Little Black Jacket, A Chanel Exhibition

"Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have said that black has it all.
White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony.”
- Coco Chanel

We made our way down to the Arts Science Museum last Sunday for the very famous Chanel exhibition that's currently in Singapore - the last stop for the exhibition this year, which has been to 15 prominent cities over the last 19 months - Seoul, London, Hong Kong, Sydney, New York City, etc.

A little history on the Little Black Jacket from the house of Chanel, if you're thinking to yourself "seriously what's with the whole big deal about a black jacket?".

It was more than a jacket, both in fashion and changing times.

"The interesting thing is that one simple thing, a little jacket with four pockets, you can play so much and create 120 different types. It's play time with an item that is timeless."

Oh Lagerfeld, you took the words right out of our mouths. The black tweed jacket was Chanel's icon, something that was eternal despite the change of style at the Chanel house from Mademoiselle's time to Lagerfeld's. It has become part of the Chanel legacy that so many of us adore today.  The jacket was created in a time where women were hungry for modernity and change, so Gabrielle Chanel adopts elegance, movement into her designs and the simple yet detailed and sophisticated tweed jacket was born.

Fashion has always said to be ever-changing but this exhibition, which pays homage to the legacy of a Chanel vision, has proved that there are certain pieces that transcend all trends and time.

Here's a better analogy - it's exactly like the little black dress. That one item in your closet that will never go out of style. Chanel was right - sometimes we get so carried away by the myriad of colors we can deck ourselves in, that we tend to lose focus on the simple, timeless and classy beauty of black and white. The absence of color. So girls, make no mistake. If there's a piece that's absolutely necessary in your wardrobe, it'll have to be a black jacket. It doesn't need to be from Chanel, (though if you can afford and bear to part with $8000 for one, by all means, get the Chanel!), neither does it need to be tweed, but a black jacket that's simple, with details that you like and with a sophistication that will take you through stages of your life, for many years to come.

The exhibition features over 100 pictures of models, actresses, personalities, musicians, all with the famous tweed jacket from Chanel. Each and every of the pictures were shot by Karl Lagerfeld personally, with Carine Roitfeld as stylist.

We decided to make a joke out of ourselves and parodied the twins Sama and Haya Abu Khadra.
How did we fare? ;)

Our OOTDs (Outfits Of The Day):

We settled for a monochrome (with a shock of colour) dress code to go with the classic Chanel theme but still retain some good, clothesxenvy fun!

Jenell

Top: Online
Pullover: Zara
Skirt: Stradivarius
Flats:  H&M
Necklace: Chanel
Bag: Gucci

"I wanted to stick with the theme and decided on a majority of black for my outfit. I decided to throw on a pullover but I was worried that I'd feel too stuffy with a proper shirt so instead, I settled for a cropped collared sleeveless top. My skirt's a basic black skater number (another one of those pieces that never seem to go out of style) and extremely airy that make it easy to wear in this weather :)
I slipped into my trusty pair of black flats that are both comfy and presentable.
To finish off the look, I went with my Chanel necklace (because why not?!) and a cross body bag."

Hafieqa

Top: Twenty One
Jacket: Thrifted
Jeggings: Uniqlo
Shoes: Bugis
Watch: Guess

"Honestly, even I know I look awkward.

I am still experimenting and trying out clothes of different styles, and especially the ones with colours.
I'm currently trying to find an alternative image I can stick with,
other than wearing black outfits all the time. This dress will accentuate the curves on your body (even if you also don't really have a prominent hour-glass figure like me) as it cinches up your waist."

Natasha

Top: Mango
Pants: Uniqlo
Shoes: New Look
Watch: Fossil
Necklace: Forever 21

"It's all about simplicity and being smart in choosing some essential articles so you look put-together and make it seem as if you actually bothered in waking up in the morning and do up yourself pretty.

This buttoned-down blouse brought more comfort to me than it looks. Although it's been pouring a lot at this time of the year, the humidity can still make me sweat buckets (ack!). That's when this top helped combat the problem with its breathable material and still have my chilly arms covered.
To add structure to this already flowy top, I matched it with a contrasting skin-tight jeggings and booties to boost my height (i call them boosties haha!)
The ensemble would've been dull and plain had I not add some delicate accessories - they have also helped remind people that I'm a (trying) girl lol"

Trudy

Top: Uniqlo
Pants: G2000
Shoes: Cotton On

"White and black scream 'Chanel' so what better way to wear it but to a Chanel exhibition!
Black pants are a staple that every girl needs to have in her wardrobe.
It also flatters your legs and makes them look slightly thinner if you're worried about your "fat" thighs, tsk.
If only I had a pair of Soiree Black Jeffrey Campbell heels, this outfit would been a little more classier.
*cough mybirthdayiscomingsoonpleasegetitformybirthdaypresent cough*"

Vernice

Top: Forever 21
Skirt: New Look
Bag: Charles & Keith
Socks: Topshop
Shoes: Online
Necklace: DIY

"Excuse my buaysong (unpleasant) expression but...
I just happened to forget how to smile properly for photos! Damn!
This peplum top with stripes is one of my favorite pieces as it never fails to hide my little tummy.
The patterns of stripes going in different directions creates an illusion to help the figure.

This black mini skirt is a staple and I'd recommend every girl to get a black skirt,
because you can NEVER go wrong with a simple black skirt.
(Just a heads up, that if you have flabby thighs like I do, there's still no hiding them with a mini skirt)
Though I've received my many comments from my friends saying that my socks remind them of the wire brushes made for dish-washing... I still adore them beyond words!
For my choice of shoes, MY CREEPERS ARE MY NUMBER ONE PICK."

All of us went home happy campers with complimentary Chanel posters! :)
If you're interested in experiencing the exhibition for yourself, we highly recommend you to make your way down to the Arts Science Museum as soon as you can. For over a hundred shots of different celebrities and prominent rocking an iconic tweed jacket in so many different ways which prices start from at least $8000, we think admiring and ogling at these shots for free is simply a deal too good to be missed.

The Little Black Jacket exhibition is open to the public from 9th Nov 2013 and runs till 1st Jan 2014 at the Arts Science Museum. Admission is free (so are the posters!!!!!).

OH! How could we forget?
Here you go, we filmed a vlog while we were out for the exhibition, have a watch! :)

Did you enjoy this post? If you did, feel free to drop us a comment down at the comment box or if you've been to the exhibition, what are your personal thoughts on the exhibition? Looking forward to hearing from our lovely readers! :)

Lastly, drop us a vote to let us know! :D
